5th Grade Promotion

5th Grade Promotion
5th Grade

We are so excited to be able to have an in-person 5th grade promotion this school year to celebrate our promoting Explorers! San Marcos Unified School District in-person fifth grade promotion ceremonies will follow the California Department of Public Health Guidance for the Prevention of COVID-19 Transmission for Commencement/Graduation Ceremonies and SMUSD 5th Grade Promotion Guidelines. Some of the guidelines as well as procedures for promotion are provided below. Please make sure you review the SMUSD 5th Grade Promotion Guidelines for more detailed information prior to promotion on June 7, 2021.

Safety & Health Procedures

All attendees must wear a face covering as per CDPH Face Coverings Guidance and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from other attendees at all times (other than with household members) when on a San Marcos Unified School District campus. This includes in the parking lot, waiting in the front of the school, and on campus.

Family members that are feeling ill, have symptoms of COVID-19, or have potentially been exposed to someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, will not be permitted to attend the on campus fifth grade promotion. All promotion attendees will be required to complete the SMUSD LumiSight Health Screening prior to attendance. Proof of the SMUSD LumiSight Health Screening will be required before attendees are allowed on campus.

Promotion attendees will not be permitted to co-mingle with other attendees, walk around campus, or congregate after the ceremony. All promotion attendees must go directly to their assigned seats and remain in their seats throughout the duration of the ceremony. In addition, all promotion attendees must maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet from all other attendees, staff, and students that are not their own while on campus.

Any attendee not following the safety guidelines in the California Department of Public Health Guidance for the Prevention of COVID-19 Transmission for Commencement/Graduation Ceremonies and SMUSD 5th Grade Promotion Guidelines will be respectfully asked to leave the event.

Student Arrival

Promoting 5th grade students may arrive 45 minutes prior to their promotion ceremony time and must enter through the Solar Gate. Students will walk directly to their classroom to meet their teacher. The classroom teacher will ensure the students have everything they need for promotion and get them ready for the ceremony.

Attendees Arrival

Signage or ground markings will be in place outside of the school in order for attendees to maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet while waiting to enter campus. Family members attending promotion will line up at the Front Gate on the physical distancing stickers. The front gate will open for families 30 minutes prior to the promotion start time. At the gate, all attendees must provide their promotion ticket and proof of the SMUSD LumiSight Health Screening. Discovery staff will be checking for both of these at the gate. No one will be permitted to enter campus without both a ticket and LumiSight Health Screening.

Each promotion ticket will have an assigned seat. Audience seating will be marked with signs identifying the seating location for guests. All guests will be seated 6 feet from other guests. Signage or ground markings will be in place to direct attendees to follow certain walkways for entering the promotion area in order to ensure social distancing. Discovery staff will be supporting our families with finding their seat.

Attendees Exiting Promotion

After promotion, school staff will direct successive, row-by-row exiting of the promotion area. Signage or ground markings will be in place to direct attendees to follow certain walkways for exiting the promotion area in order to ensure social distancing. Families will not be permitted to gather on campus after promotion, including in the parking lot.

Students Exiting Promotion

Promoting fifth grade students will be dismissed from campus through the front gate by their teachers. Families will be asked to wait for their students on the physical distancing dots at the front of the school for their student. Please remember that co-mingling amongst families in not permitted on campus and there is no gathering permitted. After your student has been dismissed, we respectfully ask families to continue their celebration off campus.

RSVP & Ticketing

Based on the CDPH guidelines, all attendees must RSVP in advance to attend promotion. Each promoting fifth grader may only have two family members attend promotion, this includes siblings. Every guest who has sent in their RSVP by May 21, 2021 to attend 5th grade promotion will receive a promotion ticket with their assigned seat location. Promotion tickets will be sent home with students the week prior to promotion, June 1-4.
